How to repair Jeep Compass, Renegade, Chrysler, Dodge and RAM UConnect display

The UConnect 7" display on Jeep Compass and Renegade is showing lines: the cause
On the 7-inch LCD screen fitted to the UConnect sat nav of Jeep Compass and Renegade, lines can develop and gradually get worse. The fault usually shows up with these symptoms:
– Horizontal or vertical lines running across the screen, until it becomes completely unreadable or fully black;
– The audio works and the controls respond, but the screen displays nothing.
The cause is a hardware defect in the LCD panel: the fault is intermittent at first, then gets worse until it becomes permanent. It cannot be solved with a software update and, since only the LCD display is affected, there is no need to replace the entire UConnect head unit.

– Visible air bubbles under the surface of the display, typically starting from the upper corners and gradually spreading
– The touchscreen executes commands on its own: it changes radio station or adjusts the climate settings without anyone touching it
– The screen does not respond to taps, or responds inaccurately
The cause is panel deterioration: with heat and over time, the display degrades internally, generating the visible bubbles and compromising touch response.
