The UConnect infotainment system is fitted with two different displays, each affected by its own specific fault. The 7-inch LCD display of the UConnect head unit is installed in Jeep Compass MP / M6 (pre-facelift, model years 2016 to 2021) and Jeep Renegade BU / B1 (post-facelift, model years 2018 to 2022): on these vehicles, lines gradually appear on the screen and get worse over time, until the display becomes unreadable. The 8.4-inch touchscreen display is instead installed in Chrysler 300C II, Dodge Challenger III, Dodge Charger VII, Jeep Cherokee KL, Jeep Compass MP / M6, Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2, Jeep Renegade BU / B1, Jeep Wrangler JL and RAM 1500, 2500 and 3500 (model years 2017 to 2021, RAM from 2019): on these vehicles, bubbles appear on the screen and the touchscreen stops responding correctly. Here’s how to fix both issues quickly and at low cost with Minitools.
On the 7-inch LCD screen fitted to the UConnect sat nav of Jeep Compass and Renegade, lines can develop and gradually get worse. The fault usually shows up with these symptoms:
– Horizontal or vertical lines running across the screen, until it becomes completely unreadable or fully black;
– The audio works and the controls respond, but the screen displays nothing.
The cause is a hardware defect in the LCD panel: the fault is intermittent at first, then gets worse until it becomes permanent. It cannot be solved with a software update and, since only the LCD display is affected, there is no need to replace the entire UConnect head unit.
Since the defect is confined to the LCD panel, Minitools offers a solution with lower costs and shorter turnaround: replacing the faulty display with the Minitools SEI-DISP259 unit. Swapping out only the screen, instead of the whole head unit, saves time and money and restores the correct display of all sat nav information and controls: map, reversing camera and climate control commands, and so on.
The 8.4-inch touchscreen display on the UConnect system develops a different type of defect: screen delamination, which produces visible air bubbles and a touchscreen that stops responding correctly. The symptoms are:
– Visible air bubbles under the surface of the display, typically starting from the upper corners and gradually spreading
– The touchscreen executes commands on its own: it changes radio station or adjusts the climate settings without anyone touching it
– The screen does not respond to taps, or responds inaccurately
The cause is panel deterioration: with heat and over time, the display degrades internally, generating the visible bubbles and compromising touch response.
There is no need to replace the entire UConnect head unit. Minitools offers a cost-effective alternative: replacing the faulty display with the Minitools spare part SEI-DISP278.Â
Swapping out only the display, instead of the whole head unit, saves time and money and restores full use of all infotainment functions: navigation, audio controls and climate controls.
