Fiat 500, Abarth 500, 595, 695 instrument cluster repair (speedometer sticking issue fixed) – step by step guide

  1. Remove the faulty instrument cluster from the car;
  2. Undo the screws from the rear cover of the cluster with a Phillips screwdriver (keep in mind that the shorter screw will be tightened in the middle hole above the connector, when reassembling);

  3. With the aid of a flathead screwdriver, undo and remove the side buttons

  4. With a spudger, pry on the plastic clips to remove the front and rear cover of the cluster;
  5. Undo the FPC of the display, which you then remove pressing on the clips on the rear side;
  6. Remove the small middle connector and the RPM needle;

  7. Acting on the clips on the circuit, remove then the RPM overlay and, lastly, the speedometer needle;
  8. With the aid of a pry tool and tweezers, undo and remove the faulty motor from its housing;

  9. Fit the new VID28-05 stepper motor correctly;

  10. Put back the speedometer needle, then the overlay and the RPM needle;
  11. Plug the small connector into the display, which you can then re-attach to the circuit;

  12. Re-insert the FPC into its connector, securing it;

  13. Re-attach the rear cover, then the front one;
  14. Tighten all rear screws, reminding that the shorter one has to be inserted into the hole above the connector;

  15. Put back the side buttons;
  16. Switch on the cluster (pin 2 and pin 3 positive, pin 1 negative) for a final check before putting it back in the car;
