HOW TO REPAIR SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE

If your instrument cluster needle is stuck or vibrates or if the speedometer needle bounces or is not working, this is usually due to a stepper motor malfunction. These problems can affect the rev counter gauge, speedometer gauge, temperature gauge pointer or fuel gauge needle.

Several pointer motors are available depending on the type of instrument cluster and car model. The most common are 04100165200 (Minitools code SEI-MOT01B) and 04111165300 (Minitools code SEI-MOT01). Even though very many car models are fitted with these stepper motors, they are now out of production and getting increasingly difficult to find, and expensive.

Minitools has long been aware that the main cause of malfunction is wear and breakage of parts of the plastic casing. This led us to produce the part SEPCOV2, a plastic cover that can be adapted to fit and fix both pointer motors.

The stepper motor cover must be replaced to repair a speedometer needle that is jumping around, stuck and not working.

The following video tutorial shows all steps of the process for repairing the motor 04100165200 (Minitools code SEI-MOT01B).

This video shows how to repair the motor 04111165300 (Minitools code SEI-MOT01).
